Tom Watlington
Chief Executive Officer

Tom Watlington, whose experience in the medical device industry spans 28 years, joined Sotera Wireless as Chief Executive Officer in February 2006.  During that year he served a dual role as President of Naviscan Pet Systems, a medical imaging company, before transitioning to a full-time position with Sotera Wireless in January 2007.

For ten years prior to joining Sotera Wireless, Mr. Watlington served as Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and later as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Biosite Incorporated, a leader in the field of medical diagnostics.  In addition, he spent fourteen years at Boehringer Mannheim Corporation in various sales, marketing and strategic roles, including Vice President of Marketing for the Diabetes Care division. 

Mr. Watlington previously served on the board of Home Diagnostics, Inc., a public company in the field of diabetes monitoring that was acquired in June 2010 by Nipro Diagnostics.  He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland.

Matt Banet, Ph.D.
President and Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Banet founded Sotera Wireless in 2004 and currently serves as President and Chief Scientific Officer.  Prior to founding the Company, Dr. Banet co-founded Networkcar in 2000 and served as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer.  Networkcar emerged as a leader in automotive telematics and successfully developed a state-of-the-art wireless, internet-based platform for monitoring a vehicle’s diagnostic condition and location.  In 1995, Dr. Banet founded Active Impulse Systems and helped build that company’s leadership position in thin-film metrology. 

Dr. Banet has extensive experience in the fields of intellectual property law, wireless electronics, medical devices, optical signal processing and semiconductor microelectronics.  He is a licensed U.S. patent agent and worked as a patent agent for Fish and Richardson, a leader in intellectual property law. 

Dr. Banet holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego.

 

 
James B. Moon

James Moon
Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Moon joined Sotera Wireless in December 2008, bringing extensive achievement in the field of patient monitoring.  Among his most notable accomplishments, Mr. Moon founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of Protocol Systems, Inc., a highly successful patient monitoring company.  Following 14 years of successful product introductions and consistent financial performance, the publicly traded company was acquired by Welch-Allyn. 

Prior to Protocol Systems, Mr. Moon directed the development of the first ethernet-based patient monitoring system, the Alpha PC Monitor, at SpaceLabs, Inc.  Subsequent to Protocol Systems, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Serveron Corporation and as Chief Executive Officer of Lifecom Inc.  At Lifecom, Mr. Moon played a key role in the development of artificial intelligence systems for medical diagnosis.

Mr. Moon has served on the boards of both public and privately held companies.  He also served on the Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Oregon Chapter of the American Electronics Association.  In 1991, Inc. Magazine named Mr. Moon Entrepreneur of the Year for the Northwest Region of the United States.

Mr. Moon holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University.

Gary Manning
Vice President, Sales and Business Development

Gary Manning has served as Vice President, Sales and Business Development for Sotera Wireless since September 2008.  Mr. Manning has overall responsibility for Sotera Wireless sales strategy and business development activities aimed at establishing successful commercialization across all markets. 

Mr. Manning has 20 years experience in the medical device arena.  Prior to joining Sotera Wireless, he held various sales and marketing management roles with increasing responsibility at Datascope Corp., both in the United States and Europe.  During his tenure with Datascope, he progressed from sales to international sales management, global training management, global market management, U.S. sales management, and finally to the position of Director of Sales and Marketing for the NetGuard business unit in 2006.

Mr. Manning completed his electronic engineering qualifications in the United Kingdom and received a bachelor of science degree in business/marketing in the United States.

Gunnar Trommer, Ph.D.
Vice President of Marketing and Customer Service

Dr. Gunnar Trommer joined Sotera Wireless in October 2008. Previously, he held management positions with Draeger Medical, a Draeger and Siemens company, including Vice President, Marketing/Product Management for Draeger’s global patient monitoring and information technology applications business.

Prior to that, Dr. Trommer advised various high tech and medical device companies as a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group.

Dr. Trommer’s educational background is in engineering. He earned a Ph.D. with high honors at the renowned Technical University Aachen, Germany.

S. Elaine Walton, MBA, PMP, RAC, CQM
Vice President, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Program Management

Ms. Elaine Walton joined Sotera Wireless in 2008.  Ms. Walton, who has more than 20 years of progressive healthcare industry experience, is responsible for quality assurance, regulatory compliance, audits and program management.

Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Walton was Vice President, Quality Assurance/Program Management at Biosite, a business unit of Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc., and a leader in the medical diagnostics industry.  Before Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc., Ms. Walton was with the Nichols Institute Diagnostics, a division of Corning Nichols & Quest Diagnostics, where she served multiple executive positions in the areas of Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Program Management and Operations.  Previously, she obtained clinical and medical technology experience at SmithKline Clinical Laboratory.

Ms. Walton holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis on medical technology from California State University, East Bay.  Ms. Walton is a Regulatory Affairs Certified Professional, Certified Quality Manager and a Certified Project Management Professional.

Brandon Poe
Vice President, Finance

Mr. Poe, who joined Sotera Wireless in 2008, brings 15 years of finance experience from the medical diagnostics, high-tech and commercial airline industries.  Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Poe served as Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and then Vice President of Finance from 2004 to 2008 at Alere Inc. (formerly Biosite Incorporated and Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc.), a leader in the medical diagnostics industry.

Mr. Poe previously worked at Gateway Computers from 2003 to 2004 in a Financial Planning and Analysis capacity and worked in various finance positions with increasing responsibility at Continental Airlines from 1996 to 2003, leaving the airline in his last position as Sr. Director of Financial Planning and Analysis.

Mr. Poe received his bachelor’s degree in business from Bucknell University and his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
