National Senior Health & Fitness Day

Held annually on the last Wednesday in May, the National Senior Health and Fitness Day is a nationwide health and fitness event held for older adults. There are multiple ways to get active, including with participating organizations or making your own fun to celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day!

You can download the 2021 fact sheet for complete event details with all sorts of resources to celebrate and participate this year.

Due to the continuing Covid-19 crisis, there are two events for 2021:

National Senior Health & Fitness Day— Spring Event: Wednesday, May 26th (the last Wednesday in May) and National Senior Health & Fitness Day® — Fall Event: Wednesday, October 27th (the last Wednesday in October).

The goal of offering two 2021 events is to give local groups flexibility in planning their activities based on current CDC guidelines in effect during these months.

Organizations interested in hosting a National Senior Health & Fitness Day event must register every year to legally use the event name and logo, which are federal trademarks. Registration includes a license to legally use the 2021 trademarks, access to the special event website with all of the materials and resources needed to plan for virtual and/or actual events, a free subscription to FitnessDay News — the event e-newsletter, option to purchase official 2021 promotion items, and more.

The 2021 event registration fee is $35.00 per location. For a limited time, however, event registration is free for local groups that would like to host a Spring or Fall event, or both. Click here for free registration details.

Every year, types of event activities include mini-health fairs, exercise demonstrations, health presentations, screenings, and fitness walks. Based on last year’s event experience during the Covid-19 crisis, there are various virtual health and wellness activity ideas available to local groups that register this year. To see the kinds of local health events held every year, simply Google “National Senior Health & Fitness Day.”

Examples of local organizations that host National Senior Health & Fitness Day events include retirement communities, park and recreation districts, Ys and health clubs, senior centers, Area Agencies on Aging, hospitals and health systems, health plans, health care providers, service organizations, houses of worship, and many more.
