ViSi Mobile Smart Tip - When to Replace Thumb Sensors

A critical component of the ViSi Mobile system is our disposable thumb sensor. In order for the system to function properly, we have some best practices that will ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and ease of use for clinicians.

The disposable thumb sensor is reusable for up to thirty days. For the best performance and most accurate cNIBP and SpO2, the best practice encourages replacing all thumb sensors once a month. The monthly exchange of thumb sensors reduces troubleshooting and reduces the clinician’s time at the bedside. It is highly advisable to pick a consistent day of the month to swap all thumb sensors each month during one of the device swap timeframes.

Recommended Cleaning and Disinfection Agents

As for the cleaning process, the reusable thumb sensor can be easily cleaned and disinfected. To prevent possible cross-contamination prior to reuse on a different patient, properly clean and/or disinfect all ViSi Mobile reusable components between each use.

Clean with soap and water or with an isopropyl alcohol-based solution. For Enteric Precautions Patients, clean with a bleach-based solution followed by an isopropyl alcohol-based solution, following manufacturers’ instructions regarding application and contact time. Do not immerse the thumb sensor in cleaning solutions.

Another option would be to clean and disinfect with the disinfection recommended by the Hospital Infection Control Department. Avoid the use of any disinfectant that contains hydrogen peroxide.

Note: Sotera has validated the effectiveness of disinfecting Visi Mobile components with PDI Super Sani-Cloth Germicidal Disposable Wipes. Refer to the labeling of alternative disinfecting products for comparisons and appropriate use.
